must for visitors to play.

brothers and Willie Park against old Tom Morris.
The Musselburgh crowds of the day, "they damned miners", as Andrew Kirkcaldy called them,

kicks to reposition golf balls to favour the local man on whom large sums
were bet.
The four and a quarter inch diameter hole became standard during the 19th century, its seemingly
random size was just that, it happened to be the width of the implement used to cut the holes at
Musselburgh and in 1893 the R & A made the size mandatory
It is possible to hire an original set of hickory clubs complete with mashie, niblicks and cleeks
as well as guttie balls for a taste of how the game used to be played.
